THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF METAL ROD

RANGE OF EXPERIMENTS TO BE CARRIED OUT :
1. To determine the thermal conductivity of the metal rod.
2. To study the temperature distribution along the length of a metal bar
3. The experiments can be conducted at various values of input & calculation can be made accordingly.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION :
The experimental setup consists of the metal bar, one end of which is heated by an electric heater while the other end of the bar projects inside the cooling water jacket. The middle portion of the bar is surrounded by a cylindrical shell fitted with the asbestos insulting powder. The temperature of the bar is measured at 8 different sections
The heater is provided with a dimmerstat for controlling the heat input. Water under constant head condition is circulated through the jacket & its flow rate & temperature rise are noted.
