SWELLING INDEX APPARATUS

The Free Swelling Index test is a rapid, small-scale, empirical method for measuring the free-swelling properties of coal. Results of the test may be used as an indication of the coal’s coking characteristics, and have also been used as an index of the extent to which a coal has been oxidized or weathered.
